What it does
The Road Transport (General) Act 1999 (ACT) is the umbrella legislation for the ACT's road transport regulatory framework. Its objects under section 3 are to provide for the administration and enforcement of road transport legislation, the review of certain decisions, fee determinations, further provision about vehicles and roads, re-enactment of certain provisions of the Motor Traffic Act 1936, and improvement of road safety and transport efficiency.
The Act does not stand alone: it defines and supports the broader "road transport legislation" suite, which includes the Road Transport (Driver Licensing) Act 1999, Road Transport (Safety and Traffic Management) Act 1999, and Road Transport (Vehicle Registration) Act 1999. Definitions and provisions in this Act apply across all of those instruments.
