What it does
The Tow Truck Industry Regulation 2020 (NSW) is the primary subordinate legislation under the Tow Truck Industry Act 1998 (NSW). It fills out the Act's framework with prescriptive requirements for licensing, certification, accident scene operations, holding yards, and fee regulation. It replaced the 2008 Regulation when it commenced on 1 July 2020 (clause 2).
The Regulation has two main purposes: ensuring that tow truck operations are conducted by appropriately licensed and certified persons using compliant vehicles, and protecting consumers (especially accident victims) from excessive and unpredictable fees.
