1. Who we are
1.1 zoelaw.ai (“Zoe”) is operated by RS9 Systems Pty Ltd (ABN 90 633 414 052) (“we”, “us”, “our”). You can contact us at hello@zoelaw.ai.
1.2 These terms apply when you use the zoelaw.ai website and when you use Zoe through ChatGPT (the “Zoe plugin”). Our privacy policy explains how we handle personal information.
2. What Zoe is, and what it is not
2.1 Zoe provides general legal information about Australian law. It is not legal advice. ZoeLaw is not a law firm. We do not act for you, and using Zoe does not create a lawyer-client relationship.
2.2 Zoe does not tell you what you should do, predict how a matter will turn out, or give an opinion on your own situation. If you need advice about your situation, speak to a qualified Australian lawyer. Free options include Legal Aid and community legal centres in your state or territory.
2.3 Zoe is for Australian law only. It does not cover the law of other countries.
3. Accuracy and official sources
3.1 We work to keep content accurate and current, but we do not promise that it is complete, current, error-free or the same as the official version. Legislation on Zoe is converted from official sources and may be out of date. Check the official source, which we link to wherever we can, before you rely on it.
3.2 Some content is written or summarised with the help of AI. AI can make mistakes. Check the cited sources. Before you act on anything, rely on it, or use any draft, get a qualified Australian lawyer to check it.
3.3 The Zoe plugin returns legislation text only for jurisdictions where we are licensed to show it. For other jurisdictions it returns details and a link to the official source. It does not return court decisions.
4. Law firm listings
4.1 Firms can't pay to become one of our picks. Any paid listing is labelled Sponsored.
4.2 Firms shown in the Zoe plugin and on zoelaw.ai are chosen by us from public information. Our picks are our opinion. They are not endorsements, guarantees or recommendations.
4.3 You choose and deal with any lawyer yourself. We are not a party to that relationship and are not responsible for the services a firm provides. Check that a lawyer holds a current practising certificate.
5. Using Zoe
5.1 The Zoe plugin is free and needs no account. Some website features need an account or payment. The price and what you get are shown when you buy them, before you pay.
5.2 You must not:
- (a) use Zoe to break the law, or to harm or harass others;
- (b) copy Zoe content in bulk, build a dataset from it, or use automated means to take large amounts of it (if you need bulk access, contact us);
- (c) get around rate limits or other technical limits;
- (d) remove source attribution, links, or the “not legal advice” notices from content you share;
- (e) present Zoe content as official, as the work of a lawyer, or as legal advice.
5.3 We may limit, suspend or stop access, including to protect the service or to meet a source's licence terms.
6. Content and licences
6.1 Legislation text on Zoe comes from official government sources, mostly under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 licence (CC BY 4.0). Where it is shown, we credit the source and say it has been converted and is not the official version. South Australian text also carries that State's required notice.
6.2 Guides, summaries, design and software are owned by RS9 Systems Pty Ltd or our licensors. You may quote short extracts with a link back to the source page. Any other use needs our permission.
7. Third parties
7.1 When you use Zoe through ChatGPT, OpenAI provides ChatGPT. Your use of ChatGPT is covered by OpenAI's terms and privacy policy, not these terms. We do not control ChatGPT or what it says. ChatGPT may summarise or reword what Zoe returns, so check the Zoe link or the official source for the exact wording.
7.2 Links to other websites (government registers, law firms, community legal centres) are for your convenience. We are not responsible for their content or services.
8. Our responsibility to you
8.1 Nothing in these terms excludes, restricts or modifies rights you have under the Australian Consumer Law or any other law that cannot be excluded. Where our liability for failing to meet a consumer guarantee can be limited, it is limited to supplying the services again or paying the cost of having them supplied again.
8.2 Subject to clause 8.1, and to the extent the law allows: (a) Zoe is provided “as is”; (b) we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, or for loss from relying on Zoe content, including AI-generated content, instead of getting advice; and (c) our total liability to you for anything arising from your use of Zoe is limited to A$100.
8.3 The limits in clause 8.2 do not apply to any liability that cannot be limited under the Australian Consumer Law or any other law.
9. Changes and ending
9.1 We may change these terms. We will post the new version on this page with a new “last updated” date. For material changes we will give notice on the site. Use after that means you accept the change.
9.2 We may change or end the Zoe plugin at any time. You may stop using it at any time.
10. General
10.1 These terms are governed by the laws of New South Wales, Australia, and the courts of New South Wales have jurisdiction.
10.2 If part of these terms is found invalid, the rest still applies.
10.3 Questions or notices: hello@zoelaw.ai.
