Queensland act
This Act creates a Queensland scheme requiring mining and energy companies with environmental authorities to lodge money or financial guarantees to cover land rehabilitation and abandoned‑site costs. A scheme manager assigns risk categories that determine each company’s required contribution; the government can use the fund or call guarantees if operators default. It shifts cleanup risk to industry, raises compliance costs, and gives the scheme manager broad discretion, increasing uncertainty for businesses.
