The Administrative Review Tribunal Act 2024 creates a brand new federal tribunal — the Administrative Review Tribunal (ART) — to replace the former Administrative Appeals Tribunal (AAT). The ART is an independent body that reviews decisions made by government agencies and officials.
Almost anyone who deals with the Australian federal government could be affected. If a government agency makes a decision that affects you — such as denying a visa, rejecting a welfare payment, refusing a licence, or making a security assessment about you — you may have the right to ask the ART to review that decision.
