What it does
The Valuation of Land Act 2001 (Tas) creates the legal framework for valuing land in Tasmania for rating and other statutory purposes. It establishes the office of the Valuer-General, creates the Tender Committee and valuation roll system, and provides the statutory process for objecting to and appealing valuations. The valuations produced under this Act are used by local government for rating, by the state government for land tax, and by other bodies with statutory valuation requirements.
The Act has 10 Parts plus Part 9A. Part 2 deals with administration (the Valuer-General and Tender Committee). Part 3 deals with the Tender Committee. Part 4 sets out valuation and valuation roll procedures. Part 5 covers notices of valuation and objections. Part 6 deals with arbitration of fresh valuations. Part 7 creates the Land Valuation Court. Part 8 provides for Supreme Court review. Part 9 governs the use of valuations. Part 9A creates adjustment factors. Part 10 contains miscellaneous provisions.
