sec.9 General outcomes for surface water and groundwater
Each of the following is a general outcome for water in the plan area— to ensure a reliable and secure supply of water from the plan area during the time this plan is in force; to protect the probability of being able to obtain water under a water allocation; to provide for the opportunity for additional surface water to be taken from the Sandy Creek catchment area to reduce reliance on groundwater in areas affected, or likely to be affected, by seawater intrusion; to provide the opportunity for additional surface water to be taken from the Pioneer River for future water requirements; to allow water to be used for the following— agriculture; aquaculture; industrial needs; small scale uses; stock and domestic purposes; tourism and recreational uses; urban needs; to provide for the continued use of all water entitlements and other authorisations to take or interfere with surface water; to encourage the efficient use of water; to allow cultural use by Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander communities; to provide water to support natural ecosystems including natural groundwater-dependent ecosystems. s 9 amd 2009 SL No. 212 s 9 ; 2016 SL No. 216 s 146 sch 20
