Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

This Act authorises the Commonwealth Government to spend up to £50,000 (a significant sum in 1927) to create a permanent memorial at Victoria's Parliament House in Melbourne.

Why this matters: When Australia became a nation in 1901, the new federal (Commonwealth) Parliament needed somewhere to meet while the national capital, Canberra, was being built. Victoria generously allowed the Commonwealth Parliament to use its own Parliament House for 26 years. This Act represents the Commonwealth's "thank you"—providing funds to build a lasting memorial commemorating this historic arrangement.

What the Act does:

Appropriates (sets aside) up to £50,000 from the Consolidated Revenue Fund (Australia's main government bank account)
Restricts the money to building a memorial at the Victorian Parliament House
Marks the period from Federation (1901) until the move to Canberra (1927)
