Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

These regulations do one simple thing: they end the legal requirement for Monash University to act as a sponsor to the University of Canberra.

What it does:

Repeals (removes) section 5 of the University of Canberra Act 1989
This section created a formal sponsorship arrangement where Monash University oversaw or supported the University of Canberra

Why it matters: When the University of Canberra first became a university in 1990 (having previously been a college of advanced education), it initially relied on sponsorship from the established Monash University. These regulations cut those legal ties, allowing the University of Canberra to operate fully independently without Monash University's involvement or oversight.
