33 Registrar may pay owner S. 33(1) amended by No. 24/2025 s. 33(1). (1) A person who claims to be the owner of unclaimed money may apply to the Registrar for payment of unclaimed money paid to the Registrar under section 12 or 14. S. 33(1A) inserted by No. 28/2017 s. 96. (1A) An application under this section must— (a) be in writing in the form approved by the Registrar; and (b) contain the information required by the Registrar; and (c) be accompanied by any document required by the Registrar. (2) An applicant bears the onus of establishing that the applicant is the owner of the unclaimed money to which the application relates. (3) The Registrar may pay an applicant unclaimed money paid to the Registrar under section 12 or 14 if the Registrar is satisfied that the applicant is the owner of the unclaimed money. S. 33(3A) inserted by No. 24/2025 s. 33(2). (3A) The Registrar may make a payment under subsection (3) regardless of any payment previously made by the Registrar under that subsection. (4) The Registrar is, following a payment of unclaimed money to an applicant under subsection (3), discharged from any further liability with respect to that unclaimed money. S. 33(4A) inserted by No. 24/2025 s. 33(3). (4A) Subsection (4) does not prevent the Registrar from making a subsequent payment with respect to the unclaimed money referred to in subsection (4).
