Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

This amendment forces vocational education regulators to go public when they punish training providers.

What it does: The instrument updates the Standards for VET Regulators to require that when the regulator imposes sanctions on a Registered Training Organisation (RTO)—whether that's a TAFE, private college, or trade school—it must publish details of the decision and the reasons behind it. This includes penalties for dodgy marketing, substandard training, or breaching educational rules.

The carve-out: Regulators don't have to publish this information if there's a specific legal prohibition preventing disclosure (such as privacy laws or court suppression orders).

Why it matters: Students and employers deserve to know when a training provider has been slapped with sanctions. This transparency helps people make informed choices about where to study, shines a light on regulator decision-making, and deters providers from cutting corners.
