Commonwealth legislation
This instrument sets the Southern Squid Jig Fishery’s total allowable effort at 550 standard squid jigging machines for the 2026 fishing year (1 Jan–31 Dec 2026). It affects fishers who operate standard squid jigging machines in that fishery, because it limits how many machines the fleet may deploy. Made under the Management Plan and the Fisheries Management Act (see s.4 and s.6), the cap creates a compliance and monitoring obligation for operators and regulators and alters incentives on fleet size and gear deployment.
