27 Alternative penalties If a provision of an Act confers a discretion to impose a fine or a period of imprisonment on a person as the penalty for the person contravening a provision of an Act, the court, on finding the person guilty of the contravention and in accordance with the penalty specified for the contravention, may: (a) fine the person; or
Sentencing Act 1995 16 (b) imprison the person; or (c) both fine and imprison the person.
