16 Power to fine (1) If a person is found guilty of an offence, the court may fine the (2) The maximum fine that a court may impose is: (a) if the only punishment specified for the offence is a sentence of imprisonment – a fine calculated in accordance with section 28; or (b) if no period of imprisonment is specified for the offence: (i) the maximum fine specified for the offence under a provision of this or any other Act that applies to the (ii) if there is also no maximum fine specified for the offence – 20 penalty units. (3) Subsections (1) and (2) do not apply to the extent that a specific provision of an Act provides otherwise.
