What it does
These endnotes are the compilation metadata that accompanies a consolidated or compiled version of a legislative instrument. They do not themselves change substantive law; they explain the provenance, amendment history, abbreviations and legislative-history entries that apply to the compiled instrument. The material presented includes (a) a statement of what the endnotes cover (Endnote 1), (b) an abbreviation key for terms used in the endnotes (Endnote 2), (c) a legislation history table identifying instruments that have amended the compiled instrument, with registration and commencement details and any application, saving or transitional provisions (Endnote 3), and (d) an amendment-history section at the provision level showing how particular sections have been affected (Endnote 4). The endnotes also set out the treatment of misdescribed amendments and the mechanism for correcting those errors under the Legislation Act 2003 (referenced as s 15V).
Concretely, the legislation-history entries shown name two consequential or related instruments, with registration/commencement data and references to their Federal Register identifiers: Radiocommunications (Exemption - Remotely Piloted Aircraft Disruption) Determination 2022 (registered 26 September 2022, commenced 27 September 2022; F2022L01255) and Radiocommunications (Low Interference Potential Devices) (Consequential Amendments) Instrument 2025 (No. 1) (registered 5 September 2025, commenced 1 October 2025; F2025L01049). The amendment-history table records provision-level outcomes: s.2 and s.4 are shown as repealed (rep.), with citations to LA 48D and LA 48C respectively, and s.6 is recorded as amended by F2025L01049.
These endnotes therefore serve as the authoritative map of how the compiled instrument arrived at its present textual form in the compilation, what other instruments affected it, and how to read the shorthand used in the endnotes. They also give the handling rule for misdescribed amendments, specifically that editorial corrections under s 15V of the Legislation Act 2003 permit incorporation of misdescribed amendments where the intended effect is ascertainable; otherwise the misdescribed amendment is not incorporated and is marked “(md not incorp)”.
