Plain English Summary

2/10 complexity

What this does This is a short technical "tidying up" law from 1940 that fixes how the main Northern Territory (Administration) Act is named and cited. It removes two redundant subsections—one dealing with the short title of the 1940 amending Act, and another from section 4 of the main Act—that were creating confusion about proper legal references.

Who it affects Primarily lawyers, judges, and government officials who need to correctly cite the legislation. It does not change how the Northern Territory is actually governed, who has authority there, or what rules apply.

Why it matters Without this fix, there were technical conflicts between the 1940 amending Act and the original 1910 Act regarding what each law should be called. These changes allow the combined body of law to be properly cited as the Northern Territory (Administration) Act 1910-1940, preventing citation errors in legal documents.
