#### 233 Finding or taking possession of wreck (1) A person who finds or takes possession of any wreck in, or brings any wreck into, the territorial sea of Australia must give notice to AMSA within the period prescribed by the regulations: (a) that the person has found or taken possession of the wreck or brought the wreck into the territorial sea of Australia; and (b) of the location of the wreck and the marks by which it may be recognised. Fault‑based offence (2) A person commits an offence if the person contravenes subsection (1). Penalty: 60 penalty units. Civil penalty (3) A person is liable to a civil penalty if the person contravenes subsection (1). Civil penalty: 180 penalty units.
