Plain English Summary

2/10 complexity

This Act imposes a National Residue Survey Levy on certain horticultural products (such as fruits and vegetables).

What it does:

Charges a fee (levy) on horticultural products that are already subject to a marketing levy under the Horticultural Levy Act 1987.
The revenue funds the National Residue Survey, a program that tests agricultural produce for chemical residues (like pesticides) to ensure food safety and market access.

Who it affects:

Producers and growers of horticultural products who already pay the primary horticultural levy.

Key details:

The Act itself does not set the levy rate; it simply imposes the legal authority to collect it. The specific amounts and collection rules are set under the National Residue Survey Administration Act 1992.
It operates nationwide, binding all States and Territories.
