This instrument lists which university degrees qualify international students for the Post-Study Work stream of the Temporary Graduate visa (subclass 485).

To be eligible, graduates must have completed one of the following qualifications from an Australian institution:

Bachelor Degree
Bachelor (Honours) Degree
Masters by Coursework Degree
Masters by Research Degree
Masters (Extended) Degree
Doctoral Degree

Important: The qualification must be at AQF Level 7 or higher (the Australian Qualifications Framework level for bachelor degrees and above). This means vocational certificates and diplomas (Levels 1–6) do not count for this particular visa stream.

In short, if you've completed a bachelor-level degree or higher at an Australian university, this instrument confirms you meet the academic requirements to apply for a temporary visa that lets you live and work in Australia after graduation.

QUALIFICATIONS

(Clause 485.231)

I, BRENDAN O’CONNOR, Minister for Immigration and Citizenship, acting under clause 485.231 of the Migration Regulations 1994 (‘the Regulations’):

SPECIFY for the purposes of subclause 485.231(1) of the Regulations the following qualifications that are as a result of study undertaken at Australian Qualifications Framework level seven or higher:

(a) Bachelor Degree;

(b) Bachelor (Honours) Degree;

(d) Masters by Research Degree;

(e) Masters (Extended) Degree and/or;

(f) Doctoral Degree.

This Instrument, IMMI 13/013, commences on 23 March 2013, immediately after the commencement of Migration Legislation Amendment Regulation 2013 (No. 1).
