7D Term of appointment of magistrates
(1) A magistrate is appointed for the term ending when the magistrate
turns 70 years old.
Note 1 The Judicial Commissions Act 1994, s 4 provides that a magistrate may
only be removed from office in accordance with that Act.
Note 2 A magistrate’s appointment also ends if the magistrate resigns (see
Legislation Act, s 210).
(2) A person who is at least 70 years old must not be appointed as a
magistrate.
