60 Applicant for local practising certificate—show-cause
event
(a) a person is applying for the grant or renewal of a local practising
(b) a show-cause event in relation to the person happened after the
person was first admitted to the legal profession in the ACT or
another jurisdiction, however the admission was expressed at
the time of the admission.
(2) As part of the application, the person must give the relevant council
a written statement, in accordance with the regulations—
(a) about the show-cause event; and
(b) explaining why, despite the show-cause event, the applicant
considers themself to be a fit and proper person to hold a local
(3) However, the person need not give a statement under subsection (2)
if the person (as a previous applicant for a local practising certificate
or as the holder of a local practising certificate previously in force)
has previously provided to the relevant council—
(a) a statement under this section; or
(b) a notice and statement under section 61;
explaining why, despite the show-cause event, the person considers
themself to be a fit and proper person to hold a local practising

(4) This section applies to a show-cause event whether the event
happened before or after the commencement of this section.
