Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

This Act gives parliamentary approval for Australia to sign and ratify an international treaty called the International Grains Arrangement, 1967.

What it covers:

The Arrangement includes two main parts:
- Wheat Trade Convention: Rules for international wheat trade
- Food Aid Convention: Commitments for providing grain as food aid to developing countries

What it does:

Authorises Australia's signature and acceptance (ratification) of the treaty
Incorporates the treaty's technical details by reference (the full text isn't in the Act itself, just the authority to agree to it)

Who it affects:

Primarily binds the Australian Government in its international dealings
Indirectly affects Australian wheat exporters and agriculture officials who implement the trade rules

This is a classic example of a treaty implementation act — short, technical legislation that allows Australia to participate in international commodity agreements.
