Each component of the braking system of a heavy vehicle must comply with the design and performance requirements of any of the following— a relevant Australian Standard or British Standard; or a relevant standard approved by any of the following bodies— American Society of Automotive Engineers American National Standards Institute Japanese Standards Association Deutsches Institut für Normung International Organisation for Standardisation European Committee for Standardization (CEN). A standard approved by a standards body is sometimes identified by a different name or acronym to the approving body.
