Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

These regulations give money back to fishing boat operators who paid a specific tax (called a levy) to the government for fishing rights in the South East Trawl Fishery.

Who gets the refund? People who paid $90.60 per unit for fishing capacity (essentially, the right to catch fish) allocated between 30 April 1990 and 31 May 1991.

How much do they get back? $33.46 for each unit they paid for. This reduces the original cost from $90.60 to $57.14 per unit.

Why does this matter? It corrects an overpayment or pricing adjustment for levies charged during that specific 13-month window. It is a one-off refund scheme for a closed group of fishers who paid under the Fisheries Levy Act 1984.
