Plain English Summary

2/10 complexity

This determination sets the dates for the commercial fishing season in the Eastern Tuna and Billfish Fishery (ETBF)—a Commonwealth-managed fishery covering tuna and billfish species caught off Australia’s east coast.

What it does:

Fixes the fishing year to run from 1 March to the last day of February the following year (a 12-month period).

Who it affects:

Commercial fishers who hold statutory fishing rights (quota) in the ETBF, as it defines the period within which their annual catch limits apply.

Why it matters:

It aligns the fishing season with the quota year, allowing the Australian Fisheries Management Authority (AFMA) to track catches against annual total allowable catch limits and ensuring fishers know exactly when their fishing year starts and ends.
