Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

This regulation sets the exact amount of money that must be paid as a levy (a tax or fee) on butter and cheese under the Dairy Produce Levy Act 1958.

What it does:

Butter: Sets the levy at one-sixteenth of a penny for each pound of butter
Cheese: Sets the levy at one-thirty-second of a penny for each pound of cheese (using 'notional weight' — a standard industry measure for cheese)

These rates apply to both categories of transactions specified in the parent Act (sections 6 and 7). The regulation sets identical rates regardless of whether the dairy produce falls under paragraph (a) or paragraph (b) of those sections (which typically distinguish between different stages of sale, such as manufacturing versus exporting).
