Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

These regulations designate the Australian Capital Territory (ACT) Schools Authority as a 'prescribed authority' under the Commonwealth Teaching Service Act 1972.

What this means:

A prescribed authority is an organisation officially recognised under the Act as being allowed to employ teachers from, or second teachers to, the Commonwealth Teaching Service.
Who is affected: The ACT Schools Authority (which runs public schools in the ACT) and teachers employed under the Commonwealth Teaching Service.

Why it matters: This designation allows the ACT Schools Authority to access and employ teachers from the Commonwealth Teaching Service pool. This ensures that schools in the ACT can be staffed by qualified teachers under Commonwealth employment terms and conditions, rather than being limited to separate state or territory employment frameworks.
