Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

This Act cleans up Australia's statute books by formally abolishing (repealing) the Colonial Light Dues system. These were fees historically charged to ships for funding lighthouses and navigation aids in former British colonies.

What it does:

Repeals six outdated Acts from the 1930s: the Colonial Light Dues Collection Acts (1932, 1934, 1936), the Colonial Light Dues (Rates) Acts (1932, 1936), and the Colonial Light Dues Appropriation Act (1932)
Effectively ends the colonial-era mechanism where shipping fees funded maritime navigation safety

Who it affects:

Shipping operators and vessel owners previously subject to these navigation fees
Maritime authorities (by formally completing the transition to modern funding arrangements)

Why it matters: This is legal housekeeping that removes obsolete laws. It reflects Australia's shift away from colonial-era funding systems toward modern arrangements for maintaining lighthouses and maritime safety infrastructure.
