What this does

This document gives Skywest Airlines a temporary exemption from the normal safety rule requiring life rafts on flights over water.

Who it affects

Only Skywest Airlines, and only for their specific Fokker F28 Mark 100 aircraft (registered under Aviation Reference Number 075986).

The exemption

Normally, Civil Aviation Order 20.11 requires aircraft to carry life rafts when flying over water. This instrument says Skywest's Fokker F28 planes don't need to carry them.

The condition

The exemption only works if the aircraft stays close to emergency landing options. The plane must remain within whichever distance is shorter of:

60 minutes flying time on one engine; or
345 nautical miles from a suitable airport (an "adequate aerodrome" as defined in Civil Aviation Order 82.0).

Duration

The permission lasted from 1 October 2007 to 30 September 2009.
