What it does
This instrument is an Airworthiness Directive (AD/SEATS/25, 10/2005) that mandates the replacement of a specific component in certain Sicma Aero passenger seats. Mechanically, it requires operators to replace the installed reading light electrical power supply in affected Sicma seats in accordance with Sicma Aero Seat Service Bulletin 50-25-210 dated 27 June 2005. The Directive states the replacement must be completed before 1 May 2006 and records an effective date of 29 September 2005. The AD identifies the triggering safety concern in its Background: the French Direction Générale de l’Aviation Civile (DGAC) reported smoke in the passenger compartment caused by overheating of a reading light power supply in a Sicma P/N 5039201-4T seat. The Directive expressly states its purpose is to require replacement of all suspect power supplies “to prevent further occurrences of smoke and possible fire in the passenger compartment.”
The AD sets out applicability by listing Sicma Aero passenger seat part numbers (P/Ns) for single and twin seats. The list contains base P/N sequences such as 50692( )-( ), 50442( )-( ), 50752( )-( ), through to 50A82( )-( ) for single seats, and 50A71( )-( ), 50A81( )-( ) and others for twin seats. Note 1 records that these seats are known to be fitted to, but not limited to, particular aircraft series, specifically Boeing 747, 767 and 777, and Airbus A330 and A340. Note 2 cross-references DGAC AD F-2005-135 (EASA Approval 2005-6123). The AD is signed and dated by James Coyne, Delegate of the Civil Aviation Safety Authority, on 18 August 2005.
In short, the instrument transforms a reported in-service overheating event into a mandatory replacement requirement for listed Sicma seat power supplies, prescribes the method (the named service bulletin), fixes a compliance deadline (before 1 May 2006), and records international coordination by reference to the DGAC/EASA action.
