Plain English Summary

2/10 complexity

What it is: A safety rule for owners of Airparts FU 24 series aircraft (rugged agricultural planes). It mandates regular health checks on the bracket that bolts the tail fin to the fuselage — the "fin forward attachment fitting."

What you must do:

Pull off the fairing (the aerodynamic cover) at the base of the tail fin
Inspect the metal fitting and surrounding structure for cracks and corrosion (rust)
Fix or replace any damaged bits and protect the surfaces from further decay

Who it hits: Every FU 24 model more than one year old.

When: First inspection within 100 hours of flying time after 31 January 1977, then every 12 months without fail.

Why it matters: If this fitting fails, the tail falls off. Not ideal. This version (Amendment 2) toughens up earlier rules by adding crack-detection to the previous corrosion hunt.

Compliance: Within 100 hours time in service after 31 January 1977 and thereafter at intervals not exceeding 12 months. Revised effective date of this AD is 1 February 1996.

Amendment 2 includes an inspection for cracks as well as corrosion.
