| Background: | A review of the aileron and flap/slat flight controls systems safety assessment analysis of the Embraer ERJ 170 aircraft, conducted after type certification of the aircraft, has shown that certain assumptions used in the analysis of some dormant faults did not literally comply with the applicable safety assessment criteria. The persistence of those dormant faults, combined with other possible evident faults during a given flight, may lead to a significant reduction in safety margins. |
| In addition, the incorporation of a new horizontal stabilizer actuator on the Embraer ERJ 170 aircraft fleet requires the implementation of new specific maintenance tasks. |
