What it does
This Airworthiness Directive (AD/EMB-145/5, 8/2008 DM) mandates inspection and corrective action on the electrical connectors of the electric fuel pumps on applicable Embraer EMB-145 series aeroplanes, and it offers an optional terminating action that changes the maintenance programme. Mechanically, the AD requires two discrete actions.
First (Requirement 1), operators must perform a visual inspection of the electrical pins and the elastomeric inserts of the electric fuel pumps on both the right- and left-hand wings. If an inspection identifies affected pumps, those pumps must be replaced in accordance with Embraer Service Bulletin 145-28-0013 (original issue or further revisions that are approved by the Brazilian authority, ANAC). The text identifies the inspected items precisely as the electrical pins and the elastomeric inserts within the hermetically sealed connectors of the electric fuel pumps.
Second (Requirement 2), operators are required to revise the aircraft-approved maintenance plan to include two specific MRBR tasks: 28-21-01-220-001-A00 and 28-27-01-220-001-A00. These tasks are listed in Appendix 2, Section A2.5.2 (Fuel System Limitation Items) of the Maintenance Review Board Report (MRBR), document No. MRB-145/1150 Revision 10, dated 4 August 2006. The AD states that compliance with Requirement 2 terminates the repetitive inspections mandated by Requirement 1.
The AD gives compliance timing detail for Requirement 1 in four sub-categories (a-d) that tie initial and repeat inspection intervals to the aircraft’s total time in service (TIS) as measured at particular historical dates (notably 3 July 2001, the effective date of Revision 1 to the ANAC AD 2000-08-01). For aircraft that already have fuel pumps with part number (P/N) 2C7-4 substituted for P/N 2C7-1, the AD prescribes a different repetitive interval (every 10,000 hours TIS) until Requirement 2 is accomplished. The AD becomes effective on 23 June 2008 and is signed by a CASA delegate (James Coyne, 16 June 2008). The AD also expressly refers to ANAC AD 2000-08-01R3.
