What it does
This instrument is Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) Airworthiness Directive AD/CIRRUS/9, dated 5/2008 and effective 8 May 2008. It mandates two actions for a defined set of Cirrus Design SR20 and SR22 aeroplanes. First, operators must inspect the rudder, aileron, and rudder-aileron interconnect rigging, correct any out‑of‑rig condition found, and replace the attaching hardware for the rudder-aileron interconnect, following Cirrus Service Bulletin No. SB 2X‑27‑14 R3, dated 10 October 2007 (Requirement 1). Second, if an out‑of‑rig condition is discovered during that inspection, the operator must report the condition to CASA via the Service Difficulty Reporting (SDR) system and include specified identifying and factual information (Requirement 2 and the reporting template). The AD gives a compliance window: the inspection and corrective works must occur within the next 25 hours time‑in‑service (TIS) after the AD’s effective date or within three months after the effective date, whichever occurs first (Compliance). If an out‑of‑rig condition is found, the report to CASA must be lodged within 10 days after the inspection (Compliance; table row). The AD’s stated background is an incident of jamming of the aileron and rudder controls on a Model SR20 and findings of misrigging on other SR20 and SR22 aeroplanes; the AD’s stated intention is to prevent jamming of the rudder-aileron interconnect system which “may result in loss of rudder and aileron flight controls” (Background). The AD explicitly references FAA AD 2008‑03‑16 Amdt 39‑15367 and places procedural work “in accordance with” the named Cirrus service bulletin.
