Plain English Summary

2/10 complexity

This Airworthiness Directive (a safety rule with legal force) applies to specific Cessna 188 agricultural aircraft (nicknamed "Agwagons") used for crop dusting and aerial work.

What it does: It requires owners and operators to inspect and maintain the aileron spar — a structural component in the wing that helps control the aircraft's turn and roll. The work must follow the instructions in Rex Aviation Technical Memo No. TM21.

Who it affects: Only aircraft with serial numbers from 188-0001 to 188-02348 that have not been upgraded with specific later-model hinge parts (including a particular shim, part number 1620089-1).

When you must comply: The inspection and any necessary repairs must be carried out every 100 hours of flight time.

Why it matters: Fatigue or cracks in the aileron spar could cause the control surface to fail in flight, potentially leading to loss of control during low-level agricultural operations.
