Plain English Summary

2/10 complexity

What this does: This is a mandatory safety directive requiring inspection and potential repair of battery cables on specific Bell 412 helicopters.

Who it affects: Owners and operators of Bell 412 helicopters with serial numbers 33108 through 33118 (eleven specific aircraft).

What must be done:

Inspect the battery cable installation following the procedures in Bell Alert Service Bulletin No. 412-86-23
If the cables are incorrectly routed, modify the installation according to that Service Bulletin

Why it matters: Incorrect installation can cause the battery cables to rub (chafe) against a nearby structural hole or the forward fuel cell vent line manifold. This friction could damage the cables or fuel system, creating risks of electrical failure or fire. The defect was discovered on a newly manufactured helicopter.

When it had to be done: Within 30 hours of flight time after 30 September 1986.
