What it does
This instrument is Amendment 1 to Airworthiness Directive AD/A320/205, concerning corrosion inspection of the wing dry bay lower skin on Airbus A319, A320 and A321 aeroplanes. Mechanically, it does the following:
- Amends the existing AD by adopting the requirements of EASA AD 2007-0064R1 as the mandatory means of compliance, and it references AIRBUS Service Bulletin A320-57-1121 (original issue or a later EASA‑approved revision) as the supporting service information. The AD text states: "Action in accordance with the requirements of EASA AD 2007-0064R1. Note: AIRBUS Service Bulletin A320-57-1121 original issue, or later EASA approved revision, refers."
- Revises applicability criteria so that the AD applies to all Model A319, A320 and A321 aircraft on which certain MRBR zonal tasks (ZL-540-02 and ZL-640-02 for MRBR up to Revision 7, or ZL-540-02-1 or ZL-540-02-2 for MRBR since Revision 8) have already been performed before the AD’s effective date, but only where it cannot be substantiated that access panels 540CZ, 540DZ, 640CZ and 640DZ were removed for inspection.
- Excludes aircraft that have completed the specified MRBR zonal tasks in accordance with AMM 05-25-40 at the August 2001 revision or later, or aircraft on which any of a specified list of Airworthiness Limitation Item (ALI) / MRBR tasks were performed (the AD lists ten task identifiers).
- Declares the amendment effective as of 22 November 2007 and notes that aircraft delivered after 27 March 2007 (the effective date of the original EASA AD 2007-0064) require no action under this Directive.
The official rationale the instrument records is: corrosion was discovered on the upper surface of the wing lower skin panel No. 1 inside the right-hand inboard dry bay during scheduled maintenance on two aircraft. The affected inspection was covered by MRB Report Revision 11 (SSI task 572061-01-1) and was later transferred into the MRBR Zonal Inspection Programme. It was discovered that the AMM task omitted the affected access panels until the August 2001 revision. Amendment 1 responds to an EASA AD revision which amended applicability and provided an alternative method of compliance. The AD text states this background in the "Background" paragraph.
