167 Arrest of unlawfully absent detainee (1) If the superintendent of a detention centre or a member of the staff of the centre believes on reasonable grounds that a detainee has escaped or is otherwise unlawfully absent from a detention centre, the superintendent or member of staff may arrest the person without a warrant. Youth Justice Act 2005 114 (2) For the purpose of exercising the power under subsection (1), the superintendent or member of staff may exercise the powers, and has the immunities, of a police officer under the Police Administration Act 1978.
