150 Explanation of rights and responsibilities (1) As soon as practicable after a youth is admitted to a detention centre, he or she must be given an explanation of the rules of the centre and his or her rights and responsibilities as a detainee. (2) The explanation must be given in a language and manner the youth is likely to understand, having regard to the youth's age, health, maturity, cultural background and English language skills. (3) Any action taken is not unlawful only because of a failure to comply with this section. (4) For subsection (1), an explanation of the rights and responsibilities of a detainee must include: (a) information about the consequences of breaching the rules of the detention centre; and (b) information about the procedure for making a complaint. (5) The superintendent of the detention centre must take all reasonable steps to ensure this section is complied with.
