Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

This document is a formal proclamation — essentially the 'on switch' for part of a law.

What it does:

Fixes 30 August 2001 as the date when Schedule 1 of the Workplace Relations Amendment (Termination of Employment) Act 2001 comes into force (becomes legally active)
Without this document, the changes in Schedule 1 would remain inactive, sitting on the shelf

Context: The parent Act deals with workplace relations and termination of employment (unfair dismissal laws). This proclamation activates specific changes contained in Schedule 1 of that Act, likely affecting how employers can dismiss employees and the rights workers have when terminated.

Who issued it:

Signed by the Governor-General (Peter Hollingworth) on 29 August 2001
Counter-signed by Tony Abbott (then Minister for Employment, Workplace Relations and Small Business)
