Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

This is a commencement proclamation — a formal legal notice that switches on parts of an Act already passed by Parliament.

What it does:

Fixes 27 November 2003 as the date when Schedules 1 and 2 of the Workplace Relations Amendment (Fair Termination) Act 2003 come into force (start operating).
Signed by the Governor-General (Philip Jeffery) acting with the advice of the Federal Executive Council.
Made under section 2(1) of the parent Act, which gives the Governor-General the power to decide when different parts of that Act begin.

Why it matters: This document itself doesn't create new workplace rules or unfair dismissal rights. It simply activates (commences) the specific sections contained in Schedules 1 and 2 of the earlier Act. Until this proclamation was signed, those schedules were dormant — now they have legal effect from 27 November 2003 onwards.
