Comment about appropriate level of ISV 7 to 18 An ISV at or near the bottom of the range will be appropriate if— the injury requires an ileostomy or colostomy for less than 3 months; and bowel function returns to normal; and there are no ongoing symptoms. An ISV at or near the top of the range will be appropriate if— the injury requires temporary surgical diversion of the bowel, for example, an ileostomy or colostomy; and there is ongoing intermittent abnormal bowel function requiring medication.
