This Act changes what happens to illegal radio equipment seized by the government.

What it changes:

Previously: When wireless (radio) equipment was seized for being set up illegally, it automatically became property of the Crown (the government).
Now: The Minister can direct that seized equipment be sold or otherwise disposed of, and can attach conditions to that sale or disposal. Until the Minister makes a decision, the equipment must be kept in secure custody as directed.

Who it affects:

Owners of illegal radio transmitters or wireless equipment who have their gear seized by authorities.
The Minister responsible for telecommunications law.

Timing: These changes apply to equipment seized on or after 1 July 1979, even though the law was passed later.
