What this Act does

This legislation orders a one-off refund to wheat growers for the 1948–49 harvest season.

The mechanism

Money moves from the Fund to the Board: The Act requires payment from the Wheat Prices Stabilization Fund to the Australian Wheat Board. The amount includes:
- All export charges collected under the Wheat Export Charge Act 1948 for wheat harvested in the year starting 1 October 1948
- Any investment income earned on that money since it was collected
Money moves from the Board to growers: The Board must treat this cash exactly like proceeds from selling wheat. This means it gets distributed to the growers who delivered wheat from that 1948–49 season.

Why it matters

This effectively returns a specific season’s export charges back to the farmers who paid them, using the existing wheat payment system rather than creating a new refund bureaucracy.
