sec.57 Precautionary principle
The authority must decide the application under the principle that, if there are threats of serious or irreversible environmental damage, lack of full scientific certainty should not be used as a reason for postponing measures to prevent environmental degradation. Section 10 (6) of the Act requires the authority to perform its functions in a way that is consistent with the objectives and principles of the National Strategy for Ecologically Sustainable Development, which requires decisions to be made on the basis of the principle stated here. s 57 amd 2020 SL No. 176 s 38
