Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

This Act authorised a one-off federal bailout for Western Australia during the Great Depression.

What it does:

Hands over £600,000 (six hundred thousand pounds) from the Commonwealth’s main bank account (the Consolidated Revenue Fund) to the State of Western Australia
Covers the 1934–35 financial year — specifically from 1 July 1934 onwards
Pays it in monthly chunks — rather than one lump sum, the money is transferred in equal monthly instalments

Why it matters: Western Australia was devastated by the Great Depression due to collapsed wheat and wool prices. This “financial assistance” was emergency federal funding to help the state government pay for unemployment relief and keep essential services running. It is a straightforward “money Bill” with no strings attached — it simply opens the Commonwealth purse and authorises the Treasurer to write the cheques.
