339J Release of seized things
> > (1) A seized thing must be released at the end of the period of 12 months after the seizure (the return period) unless, before the end of the return period, the Minister gives written notice to the person from whom the thing was seized extending the return period.
>
> > (2) The Minister must not extend the return period for a thing unless satisfied the thing is required by the Regulator for—
> >
> > > (a) the investigation of a suspected contravention of this Act or the regulations, or
> >
> > > (b) proceedings commenced, or intended to be commenced, by the Regulator for a contravention of this Act or the regulations.
>
> > (3) A seized thing may be released—
> >
> > > (a) by or at the direction of—
> > >
> > > > (i) the authorised officer who seized the thing, or
> > >
> > > > (ii) the Minister, and
> >
> > > (b) to the owner of the thing or the person from whom the thing was seized.

> > (4) This section does not prevent a seized thing from being released before the end of the return period.
