Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

This declaration gives certain Australian Defence Force (ADF) members access to home loan assistance benefits.

Specifically, it declares that service on Operation Provide Comfort in Iraq between 11 August 1991 and 15 December 1996 counts as 'warlike service' under the Defence Force (Home Loans Assistance) Act 1990.

Who this affects:

ADF members who were allotted (officially assigned) to Operation Provide Comfort during that five-year period.

Why this matters:

Only service classified as 'warlike' qualifies for the home loan subsidy scheme under this Act. By making this declaration, the Minister entitles veterans from this 1991–1996 humanitarian and security operation to government assistance with home loans.
