Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

What it does: This regulation is a post-WWI clean-up measure. It simply cancels (repeals) the War Precautions (Consumption of Goods) Regulations 1918—a set of wartime rules that controlled how Australians could use, buy, or consume certain goods during World War I.

Why it matters: During the war, the government had emergency powers to ration materials and restrict consumption to conserve resources for the military. This 1919 instrument removes those specific consumption restrictions, winding back one piece of the wartime economic controls now that the conflict had ended (following the November 1918 Armistice).

Who it affects: Primarily businesses and traders who were still subject to the 1918 consumption limits, as well as consumers who could now access previously restricted goods without wartime constraints.
