Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

This law authorises the government to withdraw £42 million from the national bank account (the Consolidated Revenue Fund) to pay for war pensions.

What it does:

Transfers the money into a special trust account called the War Pensions Fund (established under the Audit Act)
This cash is then used to pay pensions owed to veterans and their dependents

Why it matters: In 1954, Australia was still paying pensions to veterans of the First and Second World Wars and their families. This Act provides the necessary funds to meet those payment obligations for that period. It is a 'supply' or budget law — Parliament effectively signing the cheque to ensure eligible people receive the pensions they are entitled to under separate veterans' entitlements legislation.
